Health Occupation Scholarship Program

The Program

The West Virginia Healthcare Human Resource Association has established a scholarship program to help finance higher education for employees and children of its member institutions. Awards are given without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, disability, or national origin.

Eligibility

Applicants must be employees or children of WVHHRA organizations. Applicants must be high school seniors, high school graduates or college undergraduates enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time course of study at an accredited four-year college or university.

Scholarship Awards

Awards are $500 each for one year. Awards may be used for undergraduate study only. Up to four scholarships are awarded annually.

Recipient Selection

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of educational and career goals, and recommendations by references.

The number of scholarships awarded will be based on WVHHRA selection procedures and available funds. Not all applicants will receive awards.

Selection of recipients will be made by WVHHRA.

All applicants will be notified of their status in late June.

Application Process

Prepare a one page personal resume noting education, personal, work, and volunteer achievements.

Write a one or two page letter outlining career goals and reasons for interest in this scholarship program.

Attain a copy of most recent high school or college transcript of grades.

Request one personal and one educational reference to be mailed directly to the Human Resources office at your hospital/healthcare organization. (This will be forwarded to WVHHRA).

Students must return the above information to their organization's Human Resources office who will forward to the West Virginia Healthcare Human Resources Association, postmarked no later than May 15th.

Applicants are solely responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. All information submitted is confidential and will be reviewed only by WVHHRA personnel.

Payment of Awards

Scholarship payments are authorized by WVHHRA. Payments are made in one installment on August 15th. Checks are mailed to each recipients' home address and are payable jointly to the student and the school and must be endorsed by both.

Renewal

Scholarships may be reapplied for up to additional three years provided that recipients maintain satisfactory academic performance, the parent remains a member of WVHHRA and WVHHRA continues to offer the program. These re-applications are not automatic and will be considered along with new scholarship applications.

Obligations

Scholarship recipients must enroll in their educational programs no later than fall of the year in which their awards are given. Recipients have no obligations to WVHHRA. They are, however, required to provide WVHHRA with current transcripts and to notify WVHHRA of any changes of address, school enrollment, or other pertinent information.

Revision Policy

The general conditions and procedures under which scholarships are made are subject to periodic review by WVHHRA, including termination of the program.
