ASHHRA News

 

The 10th Annual Chapter Leadership conference “Creating a Culture of Excellence” provided opportunities to assist with local Chapters growth and to network with other Human Resource professionals from around the country.  Jeanene Martin, ASHHRA President (Former Region 3 Leader) presented strategic goals and how local chapters fit into future plans.   Exciting priorities for 2009 are: web resources, ASHHRA Leader Institute, ASHHRA Foundation, Mentorship program and updates to HR Metrics Tool.  The new Health Care Labor Report is one of the new items available on the updated web site.  I encourage you to check out the updates on the ASHHRA web site.

 

Our new region 3 representative, Grace Moffitt, VP of Human Resources/Support Services at Annie Penn Hospital, hosted the Region 3 meeting.  Grace is establishing quarterly Region 3 teleconferences with Chapter Leaders.  Also, as scheduling permits, Grace plans to attend the conferences throughout Region 3. 

 

The 44th Annual Conference & Exposition is October 11-14, 2008 in Austin, Texas.  The theme this year is “Leading with Passion & Purpose.  The Early Bird discount of $50.00 off full registration price is available until May 31.  Mark your calendars to attend this conference.  

 

2008 Fall Conference

“Human Resources Making the Difference”

 

Mark your calendar to attend the annual WVHHRA Fall Conference, at the Days Inn Conference in Flatwoods, WV on September 18 & 19.  Dan Weaver, President Elect has a great line up of topics and speakers:

 

The Community Outreach project for this year is the Food Pantry.  Items needed are canned goods, non-perishable items or monetary donations to support those in need.

Membership Dues

 

The annual membership drive is underway!  Denise Higgs, Membership Committee Chairman encourages members to reach out to community healthcare partners to invite them to join our organization.  The chapter goal for 2008 is to sustain 80%of the current membership.  If you have not paid your dues, please use the enclosed membership form to help achieve the Chapter goal.  The membership dues are only $25.00! 

 

Scholarships

 

Mary Miller, Scholarship Committee Chairman, announced the 5 - $500.00 scholarships were awarded this year.  The winning recipients are: 

Cynthia Arbogast - Greg Ferguson Memorial Scholarship – St. Mary’s Medical Center

Sarah Hammond – WVUH-East City Hospital

Jessica Bostic – The Brier

Jami Mathis – St. Mary’s Medical Center

Ashleigh Taylor – Charleston Area Medical Center 

 

Announcements of scholarship awards will be placed in recipient’s local newspapers.    Thanks to Mary Miller, Judy Peasak and Becky Nucilli for achieving a Chapter goal.

 

WVHHRA Goals for 2007-2008

 

·         Creation of WVHHRA Executive Committee procedure manual

·         Increase scholarship offerings to 5 - $500.00 scholarships to WV Healthcare college students.

·         Conduct one roundtable session 

·         Sustain current membership at 80%

·         Recruit 3 new student members.

·         Continue with Member recognition at Fall Conference.

·         Conduct one board meeting conference call each quarter.

·         Submit a nomination for ASHHRA Outstanding Chapter Achievement Award (OCAA) and Outstanding Chapter Officer Award (OCOA) if applicable.
